The subsequent distillation and purification of high-purity cardanol has a high cost, so its application is limited.

  Cashew nutshell oleoresin is an important raw material for the production of high-performance friction materials. Friction powder based on cashew nut shell oil is used for disc brake pads and wheel hub linings. Friction powder (sometimes called friction soil) is used as a stabilizer of friction coefficient in brake products. These particles have the characteristics of rebound, so they can buffer the pressure on the interlayer or lining. At the same time they can decompose on the surface of the interlayer at elevated temperatures to control wear and provide protection against further temperature rise.
